Cookies Policy

WHAT IS A COOKIE?

A cookie is a file that is downloaded to the user’s computer/smartphone/tablet when accessing certain web pages to store and retrieve information about the browsing activity performed from that device.

Technically, cookies are pieces of arbitrary data defined by the web server and sent to the browser. The browser returns them to the server unmodified, thus reflecting a state (memory of previous events) in HTTP transactions, which would otherwise be independent of such state.

Without cookies, each request for a web page or a component of a web page would be an isolated event, unrelated to the rest of the requests from other pages of the same site. However, by returning a cookie to the web server, the browser provides the server with a means to link the current page request with previous page requests. Besides being defined by a web server, cookies can also be defined by a script in a language like JavaScript, if supported and enabled in the web browser.

The cookie specifications suggest that browsers should support a minimum number of cookies or a minimum amount of memory to store them. Specifically, a browser is expected to be able to store at least 300 cookies of 4 kilobytes each and at least 20 cookies per server or domain.

The server that sets the cookie can specify a deletion date, in which case the cookie will be deleted on that date. A shopping site might want to help potential customers by remembering the items in their shopping cart, even if they close the browser without making a purchase and return later, to avoid searching for the products again. In that case, the server would create a cookie with a deletion date as desired by the website designer. If no deletion date is defined, the cookie is deleted when the user closes their browser. Therefore, defining a deletion date is a way to make the cookie persist across sessions. For this reason, cookies with a deletion date are called persistent cookies.

TYPES OF COOKIES

There are different types of cookies. All of them work the same way but have small differences:

  • Session Cookies: These cookies last only for the duration of your visit and are deleted when you close the browser. Their primary purpose is to identify the device type, support website security, or its basic functionality. They do not contain personal information that can identify a person.
  • Persistent or Permanent Cookies: These are stored on the device’s hard drive and are read by our website each time you make a new visit to Marbella Music School. They have a set expiration date, after which the cookie stops functioning. They allow us to identify your actions and preferences, analyze visits, and help us understand how users reach our site to improve our services.
  • Functionality Cookies: These allow Marbella Music School to remember decisions made by the user, such as login or user identification. The information these cookies collect is anonymized (i.e., does not contain your name, address, or other data).
  • Third-Party Cookies: These are cookies installed by a website other than the one you are visiting, such as those used by social networks (like Facebook) or external content plugins (like Google Maps). Some advertising companies also use this type of file to track your visits on every site where they advertise.
  • Analytical Cookies: These cookies are used for periodic maintenance and to ensure the best operation and service to the user by collecting data on your activity.
